We decided to build this house quite simply because, despite an extensive search, we couldn't find exactly what we were looking for, " says the owner. "
We wanted a large family home, something with a bit of character, well-proportioned rooms and extensive grounds, and all set within a secluded yet accessible location, and here we have all of those things."
One of the biggest complements we regularly receive is that the house looks as if it's been here for a long, long time and that's exactly the look we wanted to achieve. We used reclaimed bricks and roof tiles, antique flint, lime mortar… we even deliberately added a slight dent in the ridge of the roof so that it looks as if it has settled over time. The attention to detail was minute, and that attention to detail has been carried through to the interior, which although much more modern in terms of design, incorporates some lovely period-style features that give it a degree of character and charm.
The rooms are all large and lofty, and the layout flows beautifully making it a house that's wonderfully conducive to both busy family life and entertaining. It's everything we'd hoped it would be, and we've been extremely happy here for the past 15 years."
The house has also been designed to take full advantage of these spectacular surroundings, so as you look out, the garden and grounds open up before you, " continues the owner. "
We have around two and a half acres of beautifully landscaped gardens, which also incorporate a tennis court, and then the rest is agricultural land, which a local farmer cuts and bails and he also looks after all of the hedges.
It's a place that gives you the feeling of being miles from anywhere; we enjoy utter peace, total seclusion and the most magnificent views, but we also have the peace of mind of knowing that everything we might want or need is within easy reach."
We intended to give each of the rooms a wow factor and I'd say we've been extremely successful in that respect, but the kitchen is the room to which we all tend to naturally gravitate and therefore it's the real hub of our home, " says the owner. "
It's a large room and extremely light and bright, and from it you get these amazing panoramic views. It also has doors that open out onto our huge veranda deck so there's a really nice feeling of connection between inside and out."*

Nearby Wendover is a flourishing and attractive village with a main line station with excellent access to London Marylebone (50 Minutes). The A41 and M25 are also close.
This ever popular village has a weekly market, a monthly farmers market, a library, health centre and a wealth of public houses, restaurants and specialist shops. There are cricket, squash, tennis and bowls clubs in the immediate area.
There are well regarded schools for all ages nearby as well as access to the three local Grammar Schools.
The village is on the edge of the Chilterns escarpment and Coombe Hill rises high above it. The area is renowned for its unspoilt beauty.
